An Italian-Turned-American Cocktail

Americano – an Italian aperitif cocktail that was discovered in the late 19th century by mixing camphor and red vermouth and soda. In the 1920s the cocktail became popular with American tourists looking for a solution to the dry law in the United States.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cl Campari
  • 3 cl Red Vermouth
  • A splash of soda water

Preparation:

  • Mix the ingredients directly in an old-fashioned glass filled with ice-cubes, add a splash of soda water.
  • Served: On the rocks; poured over ice
  • Standard garnish: Half-orange slice.
  • Drinkware: Old Fashioned glass
